Kefir is cultured milk that is rich and tangy and tart. It makes an amazing base for a smoothie like this easy 4-ingredient beauty. Simply start with whole milk kefir and blend in banana, almond butter and some sweet spices and you’ve got breakfast.
I happen to love the tang of kefir, so I rely on the banana to lightly sweeten the drink and don’t add any other sweetener. If you like a sweeter drink, try adding a drizzle of honey or pure maple syrup.
Banana-Almond Kefir Smoothie
1 cup whole milk organic plain kefir (I used Lifeway)
1 medium frozen banana, sliced
1 tablespoon natural almond butter
1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice or ground cinnamon
In a blender container combine kefir, banana, almond butter and pumpkin pie spice. Cover and blend until smooth and frothy. Pour into a glass. If desired, sprinkle with additional pumpkin pie spice.
Makes 1 big smoothie (about 1 2/3 cups total)
