Usually I stay far, far away from margaritas that are so bright they glow. The exception is when that glow comes naturally, like in this blood orange margarita. Bright and beautiful citrus is one of the things that makes winter bearable, so I’m taking full advantage of it. Made with freshly juiced blood orange and lime mixed with tequila, orange liqueur and simple syrup, this margarita just might get me through the snowy season.
Blood Orange Margarita Recipe
1 1/2 ounces blanco or reposado tequila such as Patron (made from 100% agave)
1 ounce blood orange liqueur or clear orange liqueur such as Cointreau
2 ounces fresh blood orange juice
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce simple syrup
Blood orange slice
Add tequila, orange liqueur, blood orange juice, lime juice and simple syrup to cocktail shaker. Add ice to cocktail shaker; cover and shake vigorously. Strain into chilled glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with blood orange slice.
Makes 1 cocktail
