Fresh Grapefruit Margarita Drink Recipe

One of the best parts of winter is the vast selection of fresh citrus in the market. From Meyer lemons to clementines and blood oranges, I love cooking and cocktailing with winter fruit.
Grapefruit Margarita
Sweet red grapefruit make a delicious base for margaritas. Simply shake fresh squeezed grapefruit juice with tequila, orange liqueur, lime and simple syrup for an amazingly refreshing drink.

Grapefruit Margarita Drink Recipe
3 ounces blanco or reposado tequila
1 1/2 ounces clear orange liqueur such as Cointreau
4 ounces fresh red grapefruit juice
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce simple syrup
Grapefruit wedges

Add tequila, orange liqueur, grapefruit juice, lime juice and simple syrup to cocktail shaker. Add ice to cocktail shaker; cover and shake vigorously. Strain into chilled glasses filled with fresh ice. Garnish with grapefruit wedges.

Makes 2 margarita cocktails

-For the best flavor, be sure to use freshly squeezed citrus juice.
-Simple syrup is 1 part granulated sugar dissolved in 1 part water. I usually make a batch of simple syrup with 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water, and store in a glass canning jar in the fridge. The syrup will last for several weeks (depending on your cocktail making frequency!).

Grapefruit Oolong Tea Smoothie Recipe

Grapefruit Tea SmoothieI’ve been on an icy drink kick, a sure sign of summer. Whether it’s cold press coffee, fresh squeezed juice or fruit smoothies, I’m always sipping on something cool and refreshing.

My latest drink recipe is the iciest of iced teas. It’s a slushy mix of oolong tea, grapefruit and ice. I love adding a few drops of orange bitters to the mix to heighten the citrus flavor. If I’ve planned ahead, I’ll make ice cubes with oolong tea and use them in the drink. Oolong tea is mild, so the predominant flavor in this tea smoothie is grapefruit. I like to use red or pink grapefruit because they taste sweeter than white grapefruit.

Grapefruit Oolong Tea Smoothie Recipe
1 red or pink grapefruit
1/2 cup brewed oolong tea, chilled
Several drops orange bitters, optional
1 heaping cup ice cubes
Natural sweetener, if desired

Peel, section and juice grapefruit. (Cut grapefruit into supremes- remove all pith. Discard any seeds.) Add grapefruit sections and juice, tea, orange bitters and ice cubes to blender container. Cover and blend until smooth and slushy. Taste and add sweetener, if needed.

Makes about 2 1/2 cups (1 big or 2 small servings)

Tip: Since I like tart drinks, I don’t usually add any sweetener. If you prefer a sweeter drink, try adding a drizzle of pure maple syrup.Grapefruit Tea FrappeMore tea smoothie recipes:
