One of the best parts of winter is the vast selection of fresh citrus in the market. From Meyer lemons to clementines and blood oranges, I love cooking and cocktailing with winter fruit.

Tips:
-For the best flavor, be sure to use freshly squeezed citrus juice.
-Simple syrup is 1 part granulated sugar dissolved in 1 part water. I usually make a batch of simple syrup with 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water, and store in a glass canning jar in the fridge. The syrup will last for several weeks (depending on your cocktail making frequency!).

Blood Orange Margarita Recipe

Blood Orange MargaritaUsually I stay far, far away from margaritas that are so bright they glow. The exception is when that glow comes naturally, like in this blood orange margarita. Bright and beautiful citrus is one of the things that makes winter bearable, so I’m taking full advantage of it. Made with freshly juiced blood orange and lime mixed with tequila, orange liqueur and simple syrup, this margarita just might get me through the snowy season.
